Molymet has taken a significant step forward by acquiring state-of-the-art plasma atomization equipment. This advanced technology allows the production of highly spherical powders of rhenium, molybdenum and alloys, specifically designed for industrial 3D printing applications.
The spherical powders produced through this process are ideal for various advanced manufacturing technologies, including Additive Manufacturing (AM), Metal Injection Molding (MIM), Thermal Spray (TS), and Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP). These methods benefit from the enhanced fluidity, purity, and density of the powders, which helps reduce material waste costs, enable the creation of complex parts, and ultimately lower production costs and time for customers.
“We are excited to launch Molymet 3D metal powders. These powders, created through a spheroidization process, will meet the growing demand of industries that require high-performance materials”, said Mario Lama, Market Development Executive Manager at Molymet. ” As the world’s largest Rhenium producer, Molymet is committed to responsibly responding to market trends. The targeted markets are expanding, and we are particularly enthusiastic about the applications in the medical, aerospace, and high-end jewelry industries”.
“Our new plasma atomization equipment positions us at the forefront of technological innovation in additive manufacturing, meeting the high-performance material demands of our growing markets”, stated Edgardo Cisternas, Research and Development Manager at Molymet.
The plasma spheroidization system, which has completed its trial phase at MolymetNos’s facilities, is now operational. This system is transforming the company’s processing capabilities, reinforcing Molymet’s position as the world’s leader in rhenium and molybdenum processing.
