Molymet consolidates its sustainable leadership in the molybdenum industry

Prioritizing the sustainability of the business, together with people who think about the well-being of the planet, is the purpose of Molymet, which with more than 45 years of history became an industry leader in 2022. This is how, year after year, the multinational actively participates in independent measurements to enhance its strategies, evaluating that its transformations and the fulfillment of its goals are being generated at the required speed.

In this context, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index – which evaluates the sustainability of thousands of companies listed on the main world stock markets – ratified Molymet as one of the most sustainable companies in the industry, positioning itself within the 10% of the best evaluated companies. in the metals and mining sector.

These results reflect the company’s high level of commitment to environmental, social and corporate governance matters; which has been embodied in a Sustainability Strategy that integrates specific goals to advance in the 12 commitments associated with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“We have made important commitments by 2030 to reduce our carbon footprint, water impact, and contribute to the well-being of the planet and people. This includes the implementation of cleaner technologies, concern for natural resources, support for social projects that improve people’s quality of life, and the promotion of fair labor practices, where diversity, equity, and inclusion play a role. critical,” Molymet CEO John Graell said.

There are several projects that the company has implemented to ensure a more sustainable development in its growth path. An example of this is the recent inauguration of a wind turbine at the European subsidiary Molymet Belgium, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary and which hopes to reach another 20 years of sustainability, thanks to the production of renewable energy. This turbine will allow the use of 80% renewable electrical energy in the subsidiary located in Belgium.

 

Committed to renewable energy

In the framework of the celebration of the anniversary of the subsidiary in Belgium, various authorities attended such as the Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander de Croo, and the Chilean ambassador, Gloria Navarrete. This tribute gave way to the commissioning of the wind turbine.

Likewise, this milestone favors compliance with the seventh SDG to which the company is committed. “In 2021 we promised to increase the consumption of renewable electricity to 60% by 2030, and a year later we reached 72%,” said the executive president of the firm.

In this way, the development of this project is added to a series of initiatives that the company has carried out, such as the quantification of its direct and indirect greenhouse gases at the organizational level, with positive results that position it below average. industry emissions and as leaders in sustainability.
