Molymet completes acquisition process in the United States, integrating Rhenium Alloys into the group

With this acquisition, Molymet adds a new line of higher value-added products derived from molybdenum, tungsten, rhenium and their alloys. The Chilean company extends its network of production facilities, already present in Chile, Mexico, Germany and Belgium, into the United States.

Molymet, the world’s leading processor of molybdenum and rhenium concentrates, with an approximate share of global processing capacity of 35% and 70% respectively, has completed its acquisition of Rhenium Alloys LLC (RAI), a U.S. company with more than 50 years of experience manufacturing finished and semi-finished products essential to components for semiconductors, defense, implants and other high-demand applications.

With the deal closed, the Chilean company, which will operate in the United States as Molymet Alloys, formalizes RAI’s integration and advances its growth strategy through acquisitions (M&A), while strengthening its value chain with more technologically sophisticated products.

The transaction, announced in October 2025 and valued at approximately US$40 million, was finalized after receiving approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), the body responsible for assessing the national security impact of this type of transaction.

“RAI represents our gateway into the semiconductor market and a key step in our strategy for growth and value creation in high-technology sectors, including semi-finished parts for the aerospace industry, medical implants and defense. Our next step is evaluating a robust investment plan for this company,” said Edgar Pape, Molymet’s Chief Executive Officer.

Donald Mitchell, formerly RAI’s Chief Operating Officer, has taken over as Chief Executive Officer of the company’s U.S. operations, as part of the new corporate governance structure Molymet put in place alongside the deal’s closing.

Currently, roughly half of RAI’s production is destined for components used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment, an industry central to the development of technologies such as artificial intelligence. Through this acquisition, Molymet expands its footprint in the more technologically sophisticated stages of the advanced metals value chain.
